Flaxseed for Hair: Benefits and How to Use It

by sabpro August 3, 2021
written by sabpro

These days, flaxseed is a darling of the wellness world. You’ve probably heard of its various health benefits, including being a good source of protein and fiber, helping to improve cholesterol and lower blood pressure, the list goes on and on. But did you know that sprinkling some flaxseeds into your morning smoothie or using flaxseed oil in that homemade salad dressing may also have beauty benefits? More specifically, the ingredient can be beneficial for your hair when taken orally and possibly even when applied topically.

Here, certified trichologist and founder of Advanced Trichology William Gaunitz, WTS, and Craig Ziering, a board-certified dermatologist, hair transplantation surgeon, and restoration specialist in West Hollywood, CA, explain what you need to know about how to incorporate flaxseed into your hair care routine (and if it even makes sense for you to do so).

Turmeric Can Help Tackle Dandruff and Hair Loss—Here’s How

by sabpro July 23, 2021
written by sabpro

Turmeric may be associated with lattes and curry, but it’s just as good for your hair as it is for your palate. The bright yellow spice is chock full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components, which explains why turmeric has been found in beauty treatments for centuries worldwide.

A staple in ayurvedic medicine, turmeric has been used in India for at least 6,000 years for everything from a cooking spice to medicine to perfume to beauty. Thanks to trade across Asia, by 800 AD, it was widely used across the continent, particularly in China and Africa. Turmeric’s healing powers have been known for years, and it’s still regarded as a potent ingredient. Today, the antioxidant is tapped to treat dandruff and hair loss, to name just two.

This Serum and Moisturizer Duo Is Shockingly Effective—and I Don’t Say That Often

by sabpro June 13, 2021
written by sabpro

Find out more about my healthy, supple, and glowing results

I am very results-driven when it comes to my life, as well as my skincare routine. If something isn’t working, it’s gone. All this to say I’ve tried and cut many formulas from my arsenal over the years—it’s an occupational hazard—and I’ve only stuck with the ones that work. And by work, I mean do what they claim and make my skin look healthy, supple, glowing, and even.

It’s a tall order, even for the best products, and while I can be discerning, I also fall hard. I am here to tell you I have absolutely fallen for Orora’s duo of skin-loving products. A serum and moisturizer that work best as a pair, the brand’s Bioactive Collagen Serum and Cream have changed my skin and nurtured it in all the best ways. Below, find out more about the products I’m shouting about from any rooftop I can find.

Reviewed: Pixi’s Hydrating Milky Mist Creates a Dewy Summer Glow

by sabpro May 13, 2021
written by sabpro

We put the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist to the test after receiving a complimentary sample from the brand. Keep reading for our full product review.

Summer is in full swing, which means it’s time to embrace lightweight products that create a dewy, radiant glow. Wearing a full face of makeup can be less than ideal during the summer, leading many to switch to a more skincare-heavy strategy for a look that can accompany you on all your sun-kissed adventures. Although feeling the warmth on our skin is a great reminder that summer is truly here, it can also feel a bit harsh (don’t forget SPF!). Too much time in the heat and your skin may need refreshment, and we’re not talking about your favorite cocktail—a hydrating face mist should be in your summer arsenal to stay refreshed all day.

Found: The Easiest Crown Braid Tutorial on the Internet

by sabpro May 5, 2021
written by sabpro

Crown braids are aptly named—they’re a type of French braid that wraps around the head, just above the forehead, in a half-moon shape (resembling a crown or tiara). And while they look a bit complicated, if you know how to do a basic French braid straight down your head, you can definitely master the crown braid, too. Whether your preference is tight and polished or messy and boho, crown braids are extremely versatile and work for virtually all hair types, densities, and textures. If you’re curious about how to create this style on your own, look no further.

Are Apricot and Walnut Scrubs Really That Bad For Your Skin?

by sabpro April 26, 2021
written by sabpro

If you came of age during the era of Bonne Bell Lip Smackers, there’s an excellent chance that physical scrubs were your introduction to exfoliation—and you used them a lot. Between the rough texture and yummy smell, it felt like you were doing your skin a favor, scrubbing away whatever skin issues you had back then (hello, acne) to reveal better, brighter skin underneath.

But our beauty routines have come a long way, and now we’re well aware that a harsh, abrasive scrub certainly isn’t doing breakouts any favors, to say the least. But are apricot and walnut scrubs actually good for anyone’s skin? We tapped two dermatologists, Dr. Dendy Engelman and Dr. Orit Markowitz, to find whether or not apricot and walnut scrubs are actually bad for you.

How Long Does Microblading Last? We Investigate

by sabpro April 2, 2021
written by sabpro

Whether you’re someone who has sparse brows, uneven arches, or no brow hairs at all, there’s a good chance you’ve heard about microblading. After all, the cosmetic tattooing technique is one of the best ways to achieve the brows of your dreams and, if all goes well, they’ll last a lot longer than your regular brow pencils, pens, and pomades. That’s because, rather than simply tracing temporary color over your skin, Studio Sashiko owner and cosmetic tattoo artist Shaughnessy Otsuji says that microblading relies on multiple needles aligned in a row to implant pigments beneath the skin to mimic the look of very fine hairs. As such, she says that microblading is the most popular method for achieving fluffy, natural, hair-like brows that are built to last. Just how long, however, depends on how you care for them post-ink sesh. For that reason, we chatted with Otsuji and a few other brow experts for everything there is to know about maintaining microbladed arches. Keep reading to discover what they have to say on the topic.

Yes, Eyebrow Transplants Are a Thing—Here’s How It’s Done

by sabpro March 22, 2021
written by sabpro

High arched, softly angled, thick, and flat. The anatomy of an eyebrow can convey your signature look. “Eyebrows have been gaining increased attention and for good reason,” says Vanessa Coppola, a board-certified nurse practitioner and the founder of Bare Aesthetic Medical Spa. “Historically, eyebrows serve as a focal point of the face and provide a frame for the upper eye region and the lateral cheek area.” If, however, in your journey to achieving the perfect brow for you, you’ve overplucked and your brow has since diminished, you might want to consider an eyebrow transplant.

An eyebrow transplant involves replacement of eyebrow hair by transferring hair from the scalp (usually above the ears) to the eyebrows.
